Jixuan Liu, China – Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours)
The University of Queensland is a world-class institution that offers a high-quality education, a supportive learning environment, and a variety of enriching extracurricular activities. I remember attending the UQ open day as a high school student and exploring the campus, meeting friendly lecturers, and seeing all kinds of clubs and societies… I knew this was the right place for me.
The program is well-designed as it gives students a wide range of options for courses in various psychology disciplines. It enables students to gain a solid understanding of the fundamentals of psychology while also exploring different fields and topics of interest. First-year students are also given the opportunity to participate in psychology research, which I found quite interesting.
Studying abroad can mean leaving familiar surroundings and being alone, but it can also mean meeting new people from various backgrounds, immersing yourself in different cultures, and experiencing different ways of learning. Now is a good time to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.
Rachel Foo May Yuen, Malaysia – Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours)
What stood out to me about UQ is the University is grounded in research and provides many research opportunities to students. I enjoy the engagement between the lecturers and the students. They encourage independent learning and are dedicated in ensuring that the students understand the lecture materials.
Keep an open mind and give new things a try! Remember to keep a healthy-work life balance. Don't forget to manage your time wisely as well!
Agatha Cleorena Deborah – Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), joint program with Universitas Indonesia
The University of Queensland has helped me explore and learn the various paths in psychology. Students are expected to learn more than by reading textbooks, we have to participate in open discussions and practicals that challenge us.
For me, the most enjoyable assignments are those in which we are asked to connect classroom lessons to current events. For example, in PSYC2040, we were asked to create a media diary in which we had to find a popular media clip that related to each lesson topic. Similarly, in PSYC3082, we were required to do a weekly reflection on the topic and how it relates to our personal behaviours, values, etc.
We have been given the opportunity to study at an excellent university by attending The University of Queensland.
Trin Savejnarong, Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) – joint program with Chulalongkorn University, Thailand
I enrolled into Chulalongkorn University in a program called Joint International Psychology Program (JIPP). The main reason I chose to do so was because I will have the opportunity to come study in UQ.
UQ is deemed one of the best universities in psychology in the world, and its ranking is certainly very formidable in Australia. Enrolment in such a university would ensure that the education I receive would be one of the best. Not only is UQ known for its academic excellence, the university is extremely beautiful, seated in a great city in a great country.
Tanradee Mongkolpiyathana, Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) – joint program with Chulalongkorn University, Thailand
The University of Queensland is a well recognized institution that provides helpful resources and student support. UQ’s research institution has always stood out to me as their research has positively impacted the society by their high quality publications, and seeing that has inspired me to also have an interest in doing research.
My advice to other students is to learn how to manage and organize time wisely. Sometimes juggling between tasks can be very tiring, but knowing how to set good goals and prioritize your workload can reduce stress.
The University of Queensland has been such a great experience and it has provided me with knowledge and skills that would be helpful towards my future careers.
