Do you find yourself longing for a simpler time?

Maybe you've dug up an old pair of roller blades - or rewatched a classic TV series you'd almost forgotten existed.

Nostalgia can be comforting - but is it because we might be looking to the past to escape the present?

Professor Alex Haslam, from the UQ School of Psychology, explores this question with ABC Radio Sunday Morning presenter Kate O'Toole.

He talks about humans being social animals who need to find ways to connect to other people, particularly in challenging times.
