Professor Nancy Pachana from UQ's School of Psychology discussed what Queensland's Voluntary Assisted Dying laws mean for people with dementia on ABC Radio.
The Queensland Parliament will hold a conscience vote on Voluntary Assisted Dying laws later this year.
To be eligible under the legislation, a person would need to be diagnosed with an illness that is advanced, progressive and expected to cause death within 12 months.
And importantly, to make the decision to end their life, a person must have decision-making capacity.
So, what does this mean for people with dementia?
